Adult Literacy
Friends of the Southeast Regional Library has a long history of actively supporting the East Valley efforts to provide opportunities for students to improve their basic reading skills and to learn English as an ESL(English as a Second Language) student.
Friends has supported the efforts of Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County and Mesa Laubach Literacy Council to provide convenient and useable tutor training. ( Both of these local chapters are part of the national Pro Literacy organization.)

Friends has made cash donations to support the efforts of both groups. In addition, the Friends has helped with the selection and payment of many materials to support the ESL student and tutor, including videos, cassette programs and books. (See the special “Literacy” collection located near the back windows of the Southeast Regional Library at 775 N. Greenfield Road in Gilbert, Arizona.

ESL CLASSES HELD AT SOUTHEAST REGIONAL LIBRARY
The newest ESL Conversation class will begin a 12-week session on Saturday, January 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
This is an informal class for all levels to practice English conversation skills. Students must be 16 or older. No registration is required and you can begin any week of the 12-week session.
Classes are held at the Southeast Regional Library at 775 North Greenfield Road(SE corner of Greenfield and Guadalupe Roads) in Gilbert.

TUTOR TRAINING CLASS TO BEGIN SATURDAY, JANUARY 26
Volunteers are needed to tutor adult students who are learning English as a second language and/or basic literacy skills. Mesa Laubach Literacy Council is holding a tw0-Saturday tutor training workshop on January 26 and February 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Location is the First Presbyterian Church, 161 N. Mesa Dr., Mesa.
Volunteers do not need any teaching experience or know a foreign language. The training and all teaching materials are provided free of charge.
